When he was only 16 years old, Álvarez embarked on his football journey by joining Club América's, where he initially played for the under-17 team. In the subsequent year, while continuing to make his mark in the under-17 squad, Álvarez achieved a remarkable feat as he earned a promotion to América's second division team.

2016

On August 25, Edson Álvarez made his debut for the first team of Club América. This milestone marked the beginning of his journey as a professional footballer, as he stepped onto the pitch to represent the prestigious club.

2017

On February 8, Edson Álvarez achieved another remarkable milestone in his career by making his debut for the Mexican national team. This debut represented not only a personal triumph but also a moment of pride for him and his country.

2018

Álvarez emerged as a key player for Club América. He solidified his presence in the yellow and blue jersey by participating in over a hundred matches and securing both a national championship and a domestic cup with the club. His impressive contributions to the team's success established his reputation as one of the most promising players of his generation and further cemented his status as a valued asset for Club América. 

2019

On July 22, Edson Álvarez signed a contract with Ajax, until mid-2024, marking him as the first Mexican player to join Ajax. Álvarez made his debut on August 17, 2019, in a league match against VVV-Venlo, resulting in a 4-1 victory.

2019

His first start occurred on August 28 in the UEFA Champions League qualifying match against APOEL Nicosia. Álvarez scored the opening goal, a crucial contribution to Ajax's qualification for the Champions League. 

2022

With Ajax, he secured victories in all six-group stage matches of the UEFA Champions League. However, in the round of sixteen, he and his teammates suffered defeat against Benfica. Nevertheless, Álvarez achieved back-to-back national championships with Ajax that year, marking his second consecutive title win.

2023

During his four-year period at Ajax, Edson underwent a remarkable transformation, showcasing his adaptability and tactical prowess on the pitch. His contributions were important to Ajax's achievements. After 4 years at AFC Ajax In August 2023, Álvarez signed a contract with West Ham United until mid-2028.
